Finnish Adult Education Centre of the City of Helsinki (AEC)
The Finnish Adult Education Centre of the City of Helsinki (AEC) is a 104 year old public institute of non-formal, liberal adult education. The AEC is part of the education division of the city of Helsinki. The education division has around 13,000 employees and it consists of early and preschool education, comprehensive school education, general upper secondary and vocational education and liberal adult education. The centre is thus owned by the city and it receives state subsidies.
The AEC provides each year approx. 4,500 courses for 80,000 participants. There are altogether 50 permanent teachers, educational planners and administrative staff and 900 part-time teachers working at the centre. In addition, the AEC utilizes the city’s administrative services, such as economical, communication and marketing, technical and legal services.
